Kumble tumbles English hopes!

A defiant knock from someone who no one thought could do as much. A knock that stood out like a beacon for other players in the dressing room. A knock that stayed a rocking boat. It was not a huge score to sing about. But 58 runs coming from Kumble, a batsman who comes in after 7 down, a prime spin bowler who has won many a match for India, is something out of the ordinary. It does not happen every now and then!

Kumble hits another to the fence. His score contained 10 great hits to the fence.

You should not miss reading Prem Panicker's post match report. I cannot write as brilliantly as he does. And sharing his post dedicated to Kumble's feat is the most just thing that I could do as well.

I definitely agree with his observations. There is no sign of anything like an amputated spirit in the Indian camp these days. I just wish they carry on past WC2007 in the Windies.

I've followed 100s of cricketers but in my book, Kumble will easily fit in top 3 grittiest(behind Waugh and G.Chappell).

Few remember his 42 in the 2nd inn v WI at Bombay 1994-95. He came in at 162/6 and the last 4w added another 171. Big contribution to the Test win. Unfortunately innings like those have been few.

Kumble bowling 14 overs with a broken jaw v WI 2001-02 is the stuff legends are made of.

talkative man - yeah, i agree with ur comments. steve waugh used to be the definition of a gritty player. the one never to give up. greg chappell is showing that he is a gritty one in the way he is dealing with the saurav ganguly storm. he wont shirk to call the spade a spade. the broken jaw incident has enshrined kumble among those rare ones that do not quit even when the sun has set. :-) his innings against england was only proof of that, once more.
