"Sir, we are offering a free credit card to you...."

Are you tired of hearing this telemarketing advertisement on your cellphone that bothers you again and again? You may just be able to end this nuisance soon enough, thanks to a probable ruling from the government.

Unsolicited marketing calls may be thing of past soon. Am wondering what would happen to the infrastructure that these banks and financial institutions have invested in for these telemarketing ventures. They might convert them into their call centers and continue harrassing their own customers.

The US has a database called the "Do Not Call" database. It is a FDC initiative. The person who filed the PIL in India has referred to this initiative that has given the US consumers a huge respite.

Interesting Bits: There is a software available for companies that helps the caller ascertain if the person being called is on the DNC database and if they run the risk of defaulting! :-)

Yeah, these phone calls from banks are really annoying. I didn't even know about DO NOT CALL database. That is a useful thing. I hope some day all these 'promoting and advertising' will come to an end the sooner the better!
