Fatwa against Islamic Terrorism.

I never ever imagined a muslim body issuing a fatwa against Islamic terrorists. And that is just what has happened...! I am very very impressed.

From the above news piece: A leading 400-year-old Islamic seminary, the Darul-Ifta Firangai Mahal on Monday issued a 'fatwa' against terrorists targeting places of worship and killing innocent people.
>> Am sure this has come in retaliation to the attacks at Varanasi.

// Quoting from the 32nd 'Ayat' of 'Sur-e-Mayda' in the Holy Quran, he pointed out, "God has very explicitly stated that if any human being kills any other human being, he would be guilty of murdering humanity." Quoting yet another excerpt from the Holy Quran, he added, "Ayat 107 under 'Sur-e-Ambia' chapter of the Quran says that the Prophet's objective is to ensure well being of the entire universe, which includes not only human beings, but even animals, trees and plants." "It is notable that the Prophet never reacted violently even against those those not only attacked him in various ways but also tried to cause physical harm to him; the Prophet was also totally against causing the slightest harm to any place of worship, belonging to any faith." // -- If so, how come most other islamic militant organizations turn a blind eye to this "Word of God". They are then fighting against capitalist forces out of their own hatred for them, in retaliation to some past grudge, and giving it the name of Jihad or Holy War. How can a war that they wage be holy if it is against their holiest book?

In any case, this news of fatwa comes in as a new wave from the Islamic Community!

Gaj,

Went through your blog. My initial impression was that you were more inclined to believe that most Islam followers are 'pro-jihadis' or 'pro-terrorists'. (I know many Muslims who feel strongly against misusing the word 'jihad'. Please excuse me). I mean, maybe it is there in your subconscious mind. Did I smell islamophobia ?

I have a few Muslim friends and each time they hear about a terrorist attack and that getting linked to Islam, i see pain in their eyes. They keep reiterating that Islam is a religion of piece. Imagine yourself in a position where you have to keep proving your allegiance to your motherland again and again throughout your life ! Will you get fed up at some time and lose faith ? I guess some (or is it most) Muslims are in such situation.

One recent incident: A guy of our yahoogroup, unaware of the hoax mentioned in the link http://www.snopes.com/photos/gruesome/crushboy.asp, fwded the mail that depicts the so called 'cruelty' of an islamic nation. All in our group respond strongly demanding an apology and requesting him to validate such fwds before sending it across. I think such responses will certainly help. Remember the Tejo Mahal and Taj mahal hoax ? Lot of such false info getting circulated fuels islamophobia. And myself and many others are victims of it.

To conclude ... nice to hear about the fatwa. That will work as an antivenom to Islamophobia. But ... to be honest I'm not that surprised to hear it. It was a natural progression ... a way for the Muslims to distance themselves from terrorists and defend themselves against islamophobia.

This is the first time I heard a word like Islamaphobia! Disheartening...

Ive read somewhere that 'Jihad' means holy struggle of the mind to outpower evil. Ideally no religion preaches hurting or killing humanity.

RC,

idhu ellam nalla dhaan irukku. i too read it.
but i felt it shud've come from imams with a more public display.

And also issuing a fatwa generically does not help for clarity does it?

and regarding anonymous' comments,

yep no religion preaches killing of innocents

All that is true. but in present times, the worst perpetrators of this are jihadi muslims and i believe its in the hands of the moderate muslims (99% of them) to clean it from their system.

while they cud turn out in thousands for a cartoon issue in some other continent how many will come and protest against the atrocities committed by terrorists?

Vishal: No Islamaphobia. Some of my good friends are Muslims. And regardless of my reservations against Islamic Fundamentalists, these friends remain my close friends. This happens in Hindus and Christians also. It is not about religion. It is more subterranean. Vested interests, sponsorship from Fundamentalist eccentrics, a fertile mind cultivated into a suicidal spirit... all these combine into a deadly concoction. Most of the terrorism happens with a political agenda. So who is the real culprit? Political forces who fund these operations or the Fundamentalist Forces who operate on a very questionable agenda? Not religion definitely. And like you say... this was due to happen.

casement, pk:
"Jihad" -- truly speaking -- means "Holy War". What for was it fought originally and what has it come to mean today? True and peaceful practitioners of the religion do not identify with these factions of their own religion.
